With no digital assistance or tedious learning drills, the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC) 2021 is logically designed to allow a swift showcase of the participant’s knowledge and mathematic mindset. It is one of the windows of opportunity to study in the country of the Kangaroo and nearly 40 other countries that accept this test.

Established for more than 40 years, the Australian Mathematics Competition 2021 is one of the major math contest conducted in English, operated by the Australian Mathematics Trust (AMT). Open to all primary and secondary students, the event has attracted more than 15 million participants from 40 countries around the world.

Honored to be the official representative in Vietnam, iSMART Education – a member of EQuest – will coordinate with Alpha Education System, Isaac Newton Primary School, Victory School and Chu Van An Secondary School to host the Australian Mathematics Competition 2021 on 8 August 2021 (expected date) in Vietnam.

About AMC 2021 and the test structure

With five levels arranged in ascending order of difficulty, the test is designed to unleash the intellectual potential of students in grades 3 to 12. The mathematicians at the Australian Mathematical Trust have carefully designed appropriate challenges to help students hone their problem-solving thinking and skills, hoping to inspire them to become creative individuals in the future. A passion for and profound understanding of Math is an effective way to achieve such mindset.

Upon completion, each participant will receive a certificate of recognition with an analysis of their results to give them a better grasp of their own strengths and limitations for future improvement.

Certificates from the Australian Mathematics Competition – AMC can be used in applications for schools in Australia and the 40 countries that accept this test.  The test is also a prerequisite to participate in some of Australia’s internationally recognized math exams, such as the Mathematics Challenge for Young Australians – MCYA, Australian Informatics Competition – AIC, Computational and Algorithmic Thinking – CAT, Australian Intermediate Mathematical Olympiad – AIM.

The test consists of 30 multiple-choice questions in English with some keywords translated to Vietnamese. The time allotted varies by level: 60 minutes for level 1 – 2 (grades 3 to 6), 75 minutes for level 3-5 (grades 7 to 12). Test papers shall be filled in with a pencil. Rulers, compasses, and common paper dictionaries are allowed.

At the end of the official test day, the Organizer will send the test papers to the Australian Mathematics Trust – AMT in Australia for grading and result announcement. AMT will then send the certificates and result analyses to the participants within two months after the test was taken. The awards ceremony will (be expected to) take place at: Newton Grammar School – 136 Ho Tung Mau, Phu Dien Ward, Bac Tu Liem District, Hanoi

Commenting on the competition, Mr. Bach Ngoc Chien, Director of iSMART Education in the Northern branch noted: “A competition that challenges both Math and English skills is a good opportunity for students to assess their academic competency, which then allows us to discover and foster young talents in Mathematics for the country. iSMART is honored to accompany Vietnamese students on their intellectual journey, committing to nurture a generation of young talents who have both the passion and the ability for global integration.
